Good health begins in your kitchen

Of the 31 healthy hints I post this month, if you take this one to heart, your waistline will be thinner and your wallet will be thicker.

Tons of research backs this up: the healthiest food is made from scratch in your own kitchen.  People who cook are healthier than those who don’t.

When you eat fast food, take out food or even high end top of the line restaurant food, you are eating food made by strangers. Those strangers may be just having a bad day or they might be sick – remember that fun poster I blogged about a few days back?

When you eat out, the quality of ingredients is often significantly lower than what you would use at home.  One specific example is oil. While you may pay the extra money for good quality olive oil in your home, most restaurants skimp and use olive/soybean blends or worse: cottonseed oil. Every penny saved by cheaper ingredients means a better profit margin for their business.

While I’m not here to say never go out to eat, I am here to encourage you to increase the times you stay home and cook. Bring friends into your home instead of meeting them in a restaurant. Have a potluck, every one brings a dish.

Make a pot of soup. Its easy to do, it’s inexpensive and everyone will love it. Need ideas and recipes? Check out my new Souper Soups eBook by clicking right here.
