Rockaway Beach

The Rubin Rodeo is back to normal, lights are on, the heat works and all the neighbor’s yards have been neatly blown and groomed. But the long emergency that Frankenstorm Sandy caused is far from over in other parts of the NY/NJ area.

My survivor guilt has impacted me deeply. We were incredibly lucky. A couple of weeks with no ConEd is nothing compared to what the folks are dealing with. I’m not a big strong girl who can clear debris or carry heavy loads, but one thing I can do is COOK!

I learned through my network of friends that a group is trying to put together a Thanksgiving dinner for folks who were displaced by the storm. The group, Rockaway Help is a collection of Rockaway natives working to organize resources and support the area’s recovery after Hurricane Sandy’s devastation in October 2012. Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes and most residents are without power.

So, as a result, I’m baking up some Turkey day food and bringing it on out to Rockaway in the morning.  If you live near me and would like to donate anything, simply get it to me by Wednesday night or first thing Thursday morning.

Food ( Sides, Turkey, Ham, Desserts, Salad etc)
Beverages ( REALLY in need of this)
Tablecloths
Eating Utensils
Napkins, cups,plates
Decor (Balloons, anything Thanksgiving/Fall themed)
Disposable gloves
Take-out containers ( For folks to take food to where they are staying in case we are unable to seat them)
