Looks like we’ve got a mega hurricane/nor’easter headed our way that will more than likely put a damper on Trick or Treating for a second year in a row. Last year, we had a freak snowstorm with high winds the week before Halloween. It dumped close to a foot of snow on trees that still had leaves. A very, very messed up situation. We were without power for 5 days, I blogged about my family’s adventures in a piece called Occupying Suburbia .

As our planet continues to heat up from the burning of fossil fuels and the continued destruction of trees, our weather is becoming more unstable. This disturbing reality was completely ignored in the recent presidential debates between President Obama and Governor Romney, or as I like to call them, Barry and Mittens. A third party candidate who will be on 85% of the ballots in the country, Jill Stein of the Green Party, was not allowed into the debates. Dr. Stein is not afraid to discuss climate and fossil fuels, click here to learn more about her position on these crucial topics.

Frankenstorm 2012: the real deal or hype? Time will tell.

Back to this year’s Frankenstorm, also known as Hurricane Sandy. A big Arctic cold front is going to partner up with this hurricane as it travels up the coast, making for a perfect storm/ worst case scenario. TV weather folks are saying that zillions of people could be without power for WEEKS!  We did 5 days last year, could we swing 1 or 2 weeks w/out lights? Could be interesting.

Understandably, many peeps are not yet taking this threat seriously. Part of that is due to the nature of TV news and weather. Are they hyping it up so we’ll watch more and they can get more $$ for their ad space? Or, is this really the epic perfect storm/worst case scenario in history?

Only time will tell.
