Tomorrow night, I have an opportunity to speak in front of a room full of members of an “energy and environment committee”in a nearby town. I’ve met many many “green” and “sustainable minded groups in my county over the years. While they certainly mean well, I find that most of them are content to simply make proclamations without rolling up their sleeves and doing the hard work that is necessary to transform our communities in preparation for an uncertain future. They’ve done lots of talk but no real action.
I’ve only got their attention for a very short amount of time so I am scrambling to create a presentation that will wake them up out of their bureaucratic mindset.
I’m going to use some concepts out of one of my favorite movies, How To Boil a Frog. This eco-comedy/ documentary has a fun way of waking people up to the environmental and economic reality we are facing.
While I’m not going to be as funny as Jon Cooksey, the genius behind the Frog movie, but I hope to take these points about exponential and bell curves to convince my audience to start acting and not just talking.
