As 2017 winds down here in the US, there is plenty of panic about our healthcare system. The individual mandate will be gone as of next year. This mandate is the part of our government’s Affordable Care Act which requires nearly everyone to have health insurance that meets minimum standards. With some exceptions, people who do not maintain ACA-compliant health insurance coverage pay a penalty. The new tax bill just voted in last week changes the game, you can read more about it here. I’m hear to talk with you about health, not taxes or health insurance.
Our current system of health insurance does nothing to ensure health. Preventative care is pretty much non-existent. Early detection is not the same as prevention. If there’s something to detect, it has not been prevented. Both children and adults in the US are continuing to suffer from increased rates of chronic illness, what can we do about it?
Dramatically cutting the refined sugar in our lives can be an effective strategy for preventing disease. Sugar is implicated as a culprit in numerous disease processes. Gary Taubes, author of The Case Against Sugar, writes of a tobacco-scale coverup to keep medical industry from publishing the dramatic effect that sugar has on our bodies, especially in children. For me, this is reminiscent of the games that Exxon Mobil has played over the years with climate change denial. It makes me angry and it makes me want to do something about it.
This is why I’m going to start the new year off with an online class that will help you to take your health back and possibly prevent disease. SuRu’s Sugar Challenge is a 21 day odyssey that will include eye opening information on sugar along with recipes and tactics to help you live a more healthful, low sugar life. Unlike health insurance, this is class is pretty darn affordable. The cost is just a dollar a day. The benefits of breaking up with sugar are priceless. I hope you will join me, because sugar is not your friend.
