Hubby and I were talking last night about all the peeps around us who are embarking on weight loss related New Year’s resolutions. Some are swearing of wheat after reading Wheat Belly by cardiologist Dr. William Davis His book explains that the wheat of today is not the wheat of our mothers or grandmothers. Modern wheat has been genetically manipulated that have transformed its properties.
A little over 15 years ago when we were playing around with the Blood Type Diet, hubby got really strict with the no wheat deal, we are both Type O blood where bread is not beneficial. He dropped a good 10 pounds and his chubby belly. I gained weight because I was pregnant at the time.
There are other benefits to letting go of wheat and baked flour. Many folks find that digestive problems tend to clear up. Dr Davis says you can lower your cholesterol by ditching the wheat. Looks like we’re both intrigued to play around with this as a food experiment. Notice I did not say “diet”. Diets don’t work. Food experiments are a different approach, we’re trying out a hypothesis and seeing what happens.
Its not always easy to keep wheat out, but I thought of a simple strategy to try for the month that would significantly cut our wheat consumption, and improve our digestion. The strategy is SOUP!
Souper easy if you ask me. Actually there are 40 recipes for soups on this blog! To find them, click on the Soup category on the right side of this blog! So that’s our plan for the rest of this month: soup for dinner. Tonight I whipped up a split pea soup. Souper easy.
Try it!
