For today’s installment of 30 Soups in 30 Days, my plan was to do a split pea soup cooked with a ham hock.  I had picked up 3 frozen smoked ham hocks last week from Whole Foods. But I realized that many of you might not know what the heck a ham hock is!

So I Googled “ham hock” so that I could explain it or post a photo of it and I stumbled upon my pal, Jamie Oliver. He did a great job of explaining what a ham hock is. He cooked it with some veggies and made a “nice proper English meal”. I was mesmerized. The guy is so down to earth, and with that lovely accent, I could listen to him all day.

The recipe he made: Ham Hock with Cabbage looked to be enticing too. So I’m posting it here for your enjoyment. When I write up my Split Pea Soup blogpost , you’ll now know what the heck a ham hock is!

In the meantime, I know you’ll enjoy Mr. Oliver.
