My and Andy back in 2004

Are you over stretched, over booked and about to snap?  This time of year, “crazy busy” syndrome can take the joy out of your holidays and can make you and your family sick too.

Dr. Ed Hallowell, a psychiatrist and author of a book with a great title, Crazy Busy, recently gave a talk in a school district nearby. His message resonates deeply this time of year.

Right now we are at the darkest time of the year in the days before the Winter Solstice. This is slow down season: the time to do less and rest more. Unfortunately, this coincides with the holiday season -or the holidaze as I like to call it- which is a crazy busy time of year.

When you catch yourself in crazy busy mode,  take the time to slow down. Even if that means stopping in your tracks, feeling your feet on the ground and taking a couple of slow deep breaths. Just that simple act can shift your nervous system from “fight and flight” to “rest and digest” mode.  Cut back on unnecessary items on your to do list, learn to say “no”. Slow down, do less and you’ll enjoy this month more.

Got 3 minutes? Listen to what my pal Andy Weil has to say about following the breath and the benefits of meditation. If you’ve felt crazy busy even once in the past week, you’ll benefit from listening to his guidance.
