Last summer a half BILLION , that’s 500 million, eggs were recalled due to salmonella contamination. This historic recall was yet another reminder about how broken our highly industrial food system is.  We’ve basically put all of our eggs into one basket, one that is creating great damage to both people and the environment.

More than 90% of the eggs you buy come from this unsafe system. This is one of the big reasons that I became a backyard chicken advocate. Clearly the healthiest and safest eggs come from hens that are close to your home. I currently buy my eggs from small farms at my local farmer’s market. Feather Ridge Farm is one of my favorite egg farmers.

My little “Chicken Flick” will have it’s premiere this week. Stay tuned for details. In the meantime, watch this video made by my friends at Slow Food USA.
