Senator Bernie Sanders (I) VT
Politics is not something I typically write about on this blog, but a historic event is happening while I’m writing this. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is in his 6th hour of speaking on the Senate floor in a widely watched filibuster.
A filibuster is a type of parliamentary procedure. The rules permit a senator or a series of senators to speak for as like as they like. Senator Sanders is speaking out against President Obama’s tax deal with the Republicans.
Technology enables all of us to watch proceedings on the Senate floor live. I’m watching/listening on my computer on CSPAN. Its fascinating. To add more fun to the mix, if you go on Twitter and type in #Bernie Sanders, #filibuster or #filibernie, you can watch hundreds of “tweets” pop up every minute from thousands of people who are watching / listening to the 6 hour speech. Its like kids in school passing notes while the teacher is talking!
