Dr. Susan Rubin, founder, Better School Food
One of the most active, visible and successful advocates working to improve children’s eating habits is Dr. Susan Rubin, founder of Better School Food. Rubin, a dentist and mother of three, has helped spearhead a movement that started in Chappaqua and has gone nationwide.
Better School Food is a membership organization of parents, educators and health professionals that provides support to people advocating for better food. “We use the web instead of having meetings,” says Dr. Rubin, “because most of the people I know don’t have time to be going to meetings.”
“Our nutrition education programs are not working,” says Dr. Rubin. “Studying the food pyramid does not change behavior.”
