Greetings!
September is that time of year when many of us shift gears, say goodbye to summer and hello to school. This year is bittersweet for me as my oldest is off to her first year of college. The house a bit neater and quieter with only 2 kids at home. It’s a reminder that change is the only constant in our lives, nothing really stays the same.
I’m here to inspire you and support you in making healthy changes in your food and your life. This fall I’m available for one on one consultations, supermarket tours and public speaking. If you’d like to set up a group class in your home, email or call me to arrange one.
Flexibility is the key to making and adjusting to changes in our lives. I hope you are remaining flexible in the face of whatever changes are showing up in your life this fall season.
Enjoy September!
Susan 🙂

September Recipe: Miso Soup |
I spent a week this summer at the Kushi Institute Summer Conference where I was once again reminded of the healing powers of food. It inspired me to re-incorporate some Macrobiotic Principles of eating and living back into my life. I ate some form of Miso Soup every day of the conference and have now added it to my daily routine. It makes for a simple and delicious addition to breakfast or lunch. Miso soup is endlessly versitile. Here is one way to make it: 2 cups filtered water Bring water to a boil, add carrots and wakame, simmer 3-5 minutes. Add a couple of spoonfuls of warm water to the miso to thin it out. Lower the heat on the soup and add the thinned miso paste along with the grain. Continue on a very low simmer for 1 more minute. Garnish with scallions and serve. YUM!! |
How to Eat Whole Foods Without Spending Your Whole Paycheck!
|
The price of food is continuing to rise along with the price of gas. Whole Foods is reporting a decline in profits. You know things have gotten out of hand when the Wall Street Journal reports that corn has gotten so expensive that feedlot cattle ranchers are feeding their cows leftover potato chips and M&Ms
The good news is that there are many foods that are delicious and really good for your health that are good for your bank account and better for the planet than M&M hamburgers! Here are some tips to help you save some money and support your health: Buy in bulk This simple green practice is an easy place to start. The cost per unit is often cheaper than buying normal or single serving items. Buy a quart of yogurt instead of 8 oz. containers. Steel cut oats from the bulk aisle will save you loads over the pre-packaged variety. Eat more plant based meals. I’m not saying you have to become a vegetarian or vegan if that’s not your thing. But it’s really easy to make one night of the week veg. options only. Check out Meatless Monday for more ideas on how to devote one day a week to plant based foods to save your wallet, waistline and the planet. Grow your own! There is still time to plant a fall garden. An added bonus: Get your kids involved with this outdoor activity and your picky eater problems will diminish significantly. |
