For many, 2012 was a tough year. The economy was challenging, the weather packed a wallop that was impossible to ignore and on many levels, the world seemed to be unraveling everywhere you looked.

Over the years, I’ve found my role shifting from advocacy to activism. There are so many things I’ve been active with: the broken food system, a climate that is out of whack and an ineffective corporate controlled government that is hanging out on a cliff.  I’ve been out on the edge doing what I can to rock the boat, to wake people up to these situations  or offer better alternatives. It’s an endless job that does not bring in money, but the rewards are priceless.

This year has been an eventful one. Looking back over my blogposts of 2012, I’ve shared  my involvement with things like the Tar Sands Keystone XL Pipeline, fracking, occupying the food supply, backyard chickens,  along with growing food in a child care center and community garden.

Two bright spots of 2012

On the home front, I’ve continued to cook and share recipes with you along with the adventures of having my oldest daughter successfully leave the nestadopting a rescue dog and our adventures with Frankenstorm Sandy

What’s ahead for 2013?

I’m going to take some advice from Ben Franklin for the year ahead.

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

I hope to do both in  2013. I’ll continue to get my hands dirty with cooking, gardening and composting and I’ll show up at the page on a regular basis.

One new project I’m playing with is something called #SuRutopia. Simply put, its my version of how I’d like the world to turn out, twisting problems into solutions.

Another World Is Possible
#SuRutopia

Its a basic rule of the universe:  what you focus on grows.

Dieters often learn that when they focus on weight loss, they continue to lose the same 20 pounds over and over. Peeps with money  or work woes tend to be miserable when they focus on what is wrong instead of  focusing what they want. Facing the realities about climate  change and how it will impact our food supply can be grim and scary, it is not for the faint of heart! I don’t want to let what I am against to define me, I am not doom and gloom, I’m steadfastly idealistic about the future. When working in food and environmental activism, its important to focus on the change you want to see in the world, even if it isn’t there yet.

My #SuRutopia pieces will be like a little whisper to the universe. After all, everything starts with an idea.  I hope you’ll enjoy the ride as I push the realm of what is possible into my writing and dreams.

I invite you to play along! What does your utopian vision include in the year ahead? Post it below or send me a message. Let’s manifest a better world!

Happy New Year!
